The angle of repose also known as acute angle of repose is actually the sharpest angle of lineage or a dip which is comparative to the straight plane through which any given solid can be heaped without being collapsing. Angle of repose is the angle on which the solid on the slope face is on the edge of repose and it can range between 0 degree to 90 degree.
The angle of repose is also used in designing of kit for the dispensation of particulate artifacts. Suppose, it may be used to project a hopper or silo to the store of the material or it can also be used to extent a conveyor belt for conveying materials.
Along with that it can also be used to analyze that whether a slope will collapse or not. It is also important to mention that there are several methods of computing angle of repose and it is also evident that each of them delivers distinct results. Consequently, data from different labs or methods cannot be compared for better results. Two different types of methods which are used to compute angle of repose are –
- Direct shear test
- Triaxial shear test
