Tips and Tricks to Learn Chemistry Homework Effectively

by Nov 6, 2016Chemistry

Chemistry is one of the most interesting subjects if you are open to accept it. Almost entirely based on practical experiments, Chemistry is absolutely unlike most of the other subjects that require you to learn the rules, memorize theorems, solve critical maths problems or simply memorize the facts and figures. This is one of the main reasons why students are always attracted to pursuing Chemistry in their higher studies.
About Chemistry and its study scenario:
If you think that you will score well even if you do not take too much of effort in learning this subject, you are absolutely wrong. Since this subject is more based on practical tasks and experiments, it is more hard work and more regularity that you have to maintain.
This is the reason; why schools and colleges always assign homework projects and assignments for Chemistry. However, students are often found to feel bored with these assignments. There is nothing to be afraid of or ashamed of, if you procrastinate. Every student does that at some point of time.
Moreover, the examination burden is an added trouble. Hence, for your comfort and convenience, I have jotted down a few tips and tricks that will help you in completing your Chemistry homework in a timely manner and make the most of it.
Tips and tricks for doing Chemistry homework effectively:
Before you start your Chemistry session, there are a few things that you need to do for yourself. These are things that will help you to enjoy your classes better and help you in completing your assignments faster. This task includes making a few essential Chemistry charts.

  1. Make a Periodic Table:

Learning the Periodic Table is probably the first step that every person has to take. This is a very basic step that I, as a student, often thought I would excel without learning. But I was so wrong!
There is no escaping the Periodic Table. But it is also a fact that keeping every single element and their atomic number and atomic structure can be a difficult task. Hence, it is the best idea that you prepare a Periodic Table for yourself on a big chart.
Keep it right in front of you or fix it to the wall or study table; so that whenever you are doing an assignment that requires the details of an element, you can have it handy.
But, while making this Periodic Table, there are a few things that I would recommend you to add a few renditions. These include –

  • Colour:

Colour the different elements as per their characteristics. For example, metals can be yellow, non-metals can be blue, and noble gases can be pink and so on and so forth, as per your choice.

  • Labelling:

Note or label which elements are solid, which are gaseous and which ones are liquid.

  • Properties:

Add the properties of different groups of elements briefly in the chart. This simple addition will make the Periodic Table even more useful and help in your homework.

  1. Know the fundamentals:

As you study Chemistry, you must learn the fundamentals of each and every aspect of this subject. From the properties of the elements to how they react with each other, from the atomic bonding of the organic compounds to the different types of reactions, keep all the fundamentals that you need to keep in mind, jotted down in one paper.
Go through this frequently, even if you do not have an assignment related to this. However, rather than simply noting the definitions or theoretical concepts, write down the reactions through symbols. The more you go through them, the better you will learn.

  1. Learn examples:

What helped me do well during my high school years were the examples of reactions. Whenever I forgot a fundamental or rule, I came across an example of a reaction that helped me to get the idea of how an element reacts with another to give another product.

  1. Do not miss a class:

This is something very important that many people do not realize. But, missing a class will take you quite a number of classes behind as you will fail to cope with the next classes. Always remember –
One class missed, is a disruption of the whole learning process!
Hence, even if you miss a class for any unavoidable circumstances, it is a must that you visit your teacher or your classmates and make it up.

  1. Seek professional help:

There are private tutors and online professional academic services and many other professional helping hands available in the world of education, ready to help you. As you visit them or ask them for help, they will always be ready to help you with your assignments, projects or in clearing your doubts regarding your Chemistry syllabus.
If you are not sure how can your tutor assist you to score better grades in chemistry, you can know a lot about it here. These are –

  • Identify your problem areas
  • Clear your doubts
  • Solve your problems
  • Complete your assignments on time
  • Provide you time to prepare yourself for an examination.

All that you need to do is, make sure that you do not hinder or delay your preparation time. Chemistry will be interesting if you are inquisitive about its reactions and preparations. If you are unwilling to learn more, you will never be able to become a good student in this particular subject.
